“I’m too young to be old…”
If you’ve ever watched Fried Green Tomatoes, you probably remember this scene.
Evelyn breaks down crying and says:
“I’m too young to be old and too old to be young… and I think I’m just going crazy.”
And then Idgie responds:
“Oh, you’re going through the change. Just get yourself some hormones.”
Honestly? Decades later, this scene still resonates with so many women.
Because behind the humor is something painfully real:
Women in perimenopause and menopause often feel exhausted, emotional, anxious, disconnected from themselves, or like they’re somehow “losing it.”
And for generations, many were told:
It’s just stress
It’s part of aging
You’re overreacting
You just need to push through it
But hormonal changes are real.
And support matters.
One of the things I hear most often from women is:
“I finally feel understood.”
That’s why I’m so passionate about education around perimenopause and menopause — because women deserve answers, options, and compassionate care instead of dismissal.
So here’s your reminder today:
You are not “crazy.”
You are not failing.
And you do not have to suffer in silence.
Also… Idgie may have been the wisest one in the movie.
TOWANDA forever!
